Declaration on accessibility
Our Principles
APACE (Accelerating Publishing Accessibility through Collaboration in Europe) is a network set to enhance social inclusion for over 100 million print impaired in the EU (blind, visual impaired, dyslexic persons). Our activities are driven by the “Born Accessible” principle, consisting in the creation of accessible contents since their first publication and distribution in the traditional trade channels.
We encourage all partners we collaborate with to adopt the same philosophy, by guiding them step by step along their path towards accessibility. We believe that with the collaboration of all the players of the publishing value chain we can build together a digital publishing ecosystem accessible for all.
Our Website
This declaration on accessibility applies to the website https://www.europeanaccessibilitydirectory.eu/. The European Accessibility Directory is developed following the Web Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
A development-related test was carried out for this website. Accessibility audits have been performed by web accessibility experts during the development stage. This has allowed to fix potential accessibility issue, improving the compliance with the WCAG and the general user experience. Accessibility is a journey, and since the website will progressively be updated with new content, it might be possible for users to experience accessibility issues. Should you find any, we invite you to contact us.
This means that the website is partially compliant with accessibility requirement, in particular:
-
The images on the website have alternative descriptions.
-
It is possible browse the website using the keyboard or a keyboard interface, including screen readers;
-
zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen;
-
resizing the text up to 200% without loss of content or information;
-
listen to most of the contents using a screen reader (including the latest versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver);
-
go directly to the main content of the page, thanks to the “Go to the main content” link.
We are aware that parts of this website do not fully meet the accessibility requirements set out in the Web Accessibility Guidelines. We are working to remove the barriers that are still in place. We plan on
-
Fixing the fly-out menu, which at the moment can be navigated with the keyboard without being displayed
-
Ensuring a correct headings hierarchy
-
Improve the contrast ratio of some texts, graphical control elements and graphics to meet the required minimum contrast ratio defined by the WCAG. The same is true of focus highlight. These barriers are being removed as the website’s front end is updated.
-
Some images contain a copyright notice integrated into the bottom edge of the image. This information is only available to sighted users, and zooming in on these images results in poor resolution quality.
We assume no liability for the accessibility of external links. In some pages there are links to other websites that might not be fully accessible.
